About Howard
Howard Peritz graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He earned his J.D. there and began a legal career that has stayed rooted in Illinois. His education provided the foundation for decades in private practice and firm management.
He entered private practice as a senior associate in 1988 at Levine Shifrin & Associates. The role exposed him to the day-to-day demands of trial preparation, client counseling and case management. Four years later he struck out on his own, founding a practice under his own name in 1992. That early entrepreneurial step marked the start of a pattern: Peritz has alternated between building practices and leading within established firms.
In 2003 he became the managing lawyer at Paul B. Wharton & Associates. That position put him in charge of case oversight and administrative matters at a firm level. He returned to solo practice and founded The Law Offices of Howard Peritz in 2007. He has maintained that office since then, representing clients and overseeing his practice’s operations.
Across roles as associate, founder and managing lawyer, Peritz has accumulated experience in the practical business of running a law practice as well as the substantive work of representing clients. He has worked in environments that required both hands-on legal work and the organization of other lawyers and staff. Those dual responsibilities shaped how he approaches client matters and firm administration.
Peritz is licensed to practice in Illinois and has spent his career practicing in that jurisdiction. His professional path is straightforward: law school, a series of positions in private practice, the creation of independent practices and a spell managing at another firm. He is a long-time practitioner who has navigated the shifting demands of litigation and client representation over several decades.
Colleagues and clients who have worked with him describe a lawyer who understands the practical contours of running a case from intake to resolution. He has balanced courtroom work, negotiations and the less visible tasks that keep a practice running. His work reflects a sustained presence in Illinois law rather than sudden shifts in specialty or geography.
As of 2026 he practices from The Law Offices of Howard Peritz in Illinois, where his work continues to center on serving clients within the state’s legal system.
