About Hieu
Hieu Vu earned his J.D. from Pacific Coast University in 2005. He completed his legal education at a time when debates over criminal justice reform and DUI law were shaping trial practice in California. The degree provided the foundation for a career tied closely to criminal defense issues.
Soon after law school he established his practice in California, where he is admitted to the bar and has built a career representing individuals facing criminal and DUI charges. He has kept an active presence in professional circles since 2009, joining organizations that bring together trial lawyers and public defenders across the state.
Vu holds memberships in the California DUI Lawyers Association and the California Public Defender Association, both since 2009. Those affiliations have kept him connected to developments in case law, courtroom strategy and legislative changes that affect criminal defense counsel. He has used those forums to exchange ideas with colleagues and to stay current on best practices for defending clients in criminal and DUI matters.
Over the years Vu’s work has centered on trial and appellate advocacy for people accused of crimes. He represents clients at arraignments, hearings and trials, and handles post-conviction matters when appropriate. His courtroom work involves jury selection, cross-examination and argument. He also represents clients at negotiated resolutions when the facts and law support that path.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in approach and persistent in preparation. He balances legal research with practical case management so that clients understand both risks and options. He regularly reviews forensic reports, police reports and witness statements to identify inconsistencies and lines of defense that may alter outcomes.
Outside litigation, Vu follows legislative proposals and judicial opinions that affect criminal procedure and DUI enforcement. That attention informs how he advises clients before decisions are made about plea offers or trial. He also mentors newer lawyers through professional associations and informal networks.
He practices in California and handles a range of criminal defense matters, with particular attention to DUI cases and related driving offenses. He currently concentrates his practice on defending clients charged with criminal and DUI offenses in California.
