About Hershel
Hershel Chapin built a legal path that moves between courtroom procedure and office practice. He began his academic journey at Southern Methodist University, where he studied finance and French. He went on to earn a J.D. from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University.
Early in his career he combined practical roles on campus with legal internships. He worked as a multimedia technology consultant and as coordinator for the SMU Honors Program. He spent time as a law intern at Burns Anderson Jury & Brenner in 2006. In 2009 he served both as a law clerk at Gordon Arata McCollam Duplantis & Eagan and as a law intern in the chambers of the Honorable Harlin D. Hale in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Those clerkship and internship experiences preceded his entry to private practice. In 2011 he served as an associate at Barron & Newburger, P.C. That same year he maintained a solo practice under The Chapin Law Office. In 2012 he took on a managing lawyer role at H. R. Chapin, Lawyer & Counselor, PLLC. He later worked as a lawyer at Weinstein, Pinson & Riley, P.S., beginning in 2014.
Chapin is admitted to practice in Texas and in a range of federal tribunals. His federal admissions include the U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. His court credentials reflect both trial-level and appellate exposure.
On the association side, he has held membership in the American Bar Association from 2011 through 2019. He currently holds memberships in the Pro Bono College of Law, the Dallas Bar Association, and the Texas Bar College of Law. Those connections have kept him engaged with local and statewide legal communities.
Colleagues and clients would point to a varied resume: courtroom work stemming from federal admissions, clerkship experience that included bankruptcy matters, and years spent running small and solo practices. He has handled roles that range from staff positions in university programs to managing a law office. He currently practices at H R Chapin, Lawyer & Counselor, PLLC, where he handles matters in Texas and in the federal courts where he is admitted.
