About Henry George
Henry George Gereis earned his law degree and a master’s degree in dispute resolution from Pepperdine University School of Law in 2016. He completed the dual program the same year he received his J.D., a course of study that combined courtroom training with practical dispute resolution techniques. He moved into the field soon after, building a varied early career through internships and assistant roles.
Gereis began gaining legal experience while still a student and continued after graduation in roles that exposed him to both civil and criminal matters. Early internships included positions at Hakim George Law in 2013 and at several Los Angeles firms in 2015 and 2016. In 2017 he worked as a legal assistant at the Law Offices of Robert Borsky. By 2018 he was practicing as an associate lawyer and serving in public defense roles.
In 2018 Gereis held multiple positions. He was an associate at Hakim George Law and The Shulman Family Law Group. He also served as a public defender in Santa Barbara and later worked with the Kern County Public Defenders Office. Those years gave him extensive courtroom time and regular client contact. The mix of family law and public defense work shaped his practical approach to litigation and client counseling.
He launched his own practice in 2020. Gereis Law lists him as owner and lawyer, a position that allows him to handle matters directly and manage case strategy. In 2021 he took on an of counsel role at The Kavinoky Law Office, adding another layer of experience at an established firm. The of counsel appointment reflected a continuing connection to broader practice networks while he ran his own shop.
Throughout his career Gereis has moved between private practice and public service. That movement reflects a willingness to take on different case types and procedural demands. He has handled client interviews, pretrial preparation, courtroom hearings and negotiated outcomes in family law settings. In public defense he represented clients at various stages of criminal proceedings and gained experience in trial preparation and plea negotiations.
Colleagues describe him as methodical and straightforward in the courtroom; clients have worked with him on both family law disputes and criminal matters. He maintains his practice in California and keeps active ties to local firms and former offices. He now operates Gereis Law, handling criminal defense and family law matters in California.
