About Gretchyn Gay

Gretchyn Gay Meinken built her legal foundation at the University of Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 2000, and at George Mason University School of Law, where she received her J.D. in 2007. She emerged from law school as part of a generation of lawyers who entered practice during a period of change for estate and elder law. Her education provided technical training and a base for work that crosses state and federal lines.

She is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland, and she is also admitted to the U.S. Tax Court. Those admissions allow her to handle matters that involve state probate systems as well as federal tax procedures. Her multi-jurisdictional credentials are a practical match for clients whose planning and disputes span more than one court system.

Meinken is a member of the law firm Wade, Grimes, Friedman, Meinken & Leischner, PLLC. At the firm she works on estate planning, probate and trust administration, elder law concerns, and tax-related issues that affect estates and fiduciaries. Her work includes drafting estate plans, advising trustees and personal representatives, and handling tax questions that arise in settlement and administration of estates.

Her involvement in professional organizations is extensive. She served as president of the Virginia Women Lawyers Association, a position that put her in a visible leadership role within the state bar community. She holds memberships in the Alexandria Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association’s Trusts & Probate Section, and the Fairfax County Bar Association’s Wills, Trusts & Estates Section. She is also a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. On a separate civic note, she serves on the board of the Junior Friends of The Campagna Center, and she is on the Fourth District, Section II, Disciplinary Committee for the Virginia State Bar.

Colleagues describe her as steady and pragmatic in handling the paperwork and deadlines that accompany estate administration. She aims to explain technical rules in plain language so clients can make informed decisions. When disputes arise, she works to identify practical options that address both legal and family dynamics.

She continues to practice at Wade, Grimes, Friedman, Meinken & Leischner, PLLC, focusing on estate planning, probate and trust administration, elder law, and estate-related tax matters.
