About Gregory J

Gregory J White earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and built a career that moves between public service and private practice. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Massachusetts bar, the First Circuit and the Federal Circuit. Those admissions reflect a practice that has touched both state and federal law.

He began his legal career as an assistant prosecutor in Worcester in 1988. He spent years in the district attorney system, taking on frontline trial work and supervisory roles. In 1997 he became chief of the Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit in Norfolk, handling serious criminal matters tied to fatal accidents. Two years later he served as a senior lawyer in the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, where he continued trial and advisory work.

White moved into private practice in 2001, operating a solo practice billed under his own name. He returned to government legal work in the early 2000s. In 2003 he was appointed deputy commissioner and general counsel at the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents. That post placed him at the intersection of administrative law, workplace injury adjudication and agency management. He followed that role with a term as general counsel at the Massachusetts Department of Labor in 2005.

At the start of the next decade he joined the U.S. Department of Labor as a senior lawyer advisor. The federal assignment broadened his exposure to national labor policy and regulatory enforcement. He again opened a solo practice in 2009 under the Law Office of Gregory J. White. In 2015 he took on a senior executive role as general counsel and chief of staff in the Office of Consumer Affairs & Business Regulation, advising on consumer protection and business oversight issues.

Those shifts between public agencies and solo practice produced a blend of courtroom experience, administrative law work and executive-level legal advising. He has handled prosecutions, regulatory litigation and counsel work for state agencies. Colleagues describe him as a steady presence in high-pressure administrative environments and a lawyer comfortable advising agency leaders on operational and legal choices.

White’s record shows repeated engagement with labor and administrative law, criminal prosecution tied to motor vehicle fatalities, and consumer and business regulatory matters. He practices in Massachusetts and appears in federal courts where admitted. He focuses his practice on Massachusetts and federal matters.
