About Darren
Darren Griffis combines a background in literature with legal training. He studied English and American literature as an undergraduate and returned to that field for a master’s degree before turning to law. His academic path includes a B.A. from Roanoke College (2000), an M.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2006), and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law (2009).
He began his legal career after law school in Massachusetts. Over time he concentrated on criminal defense work and built experience handling a range of matters in state courts. He appears regularly before trial judges and has represented clients at various stages of criminal proceedings, from arraignment through trial.
Griffis is active in professional groups tied to criminal defense. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Rhode Island Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also belongs to the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Worcester County Bar Association. Those memberships keep him connected to peers and current issues in criminal law.
Colleagues describe him as straightforward in court and methodical in case preparation. He brings a literary background to legal writing and advocacy, which shows in pleadings and motions that tend to be clear and tightly organized. He handles both misdemeanor and felony matters, and he works on pretrial strategy as well as trial presentation.
Clients who come to him are often facing urgent time-sensitive problems. He meets those demands by prioritizing early intervention and by preparing quickly for court appearances. He also assists with post-trial procedures when appropriate.
He works out of Glickman, Sugarman, Kneeland & Gribouski. The office serves clients across Massachusetts and Griffis handles courtroom work as well as client counseling and case development. He now practices criminal defense at Glickman, Sugarman, Kneeland & Gribouski.
