About Gregory D
Gregory D Sweeney has built a steady legal career across Tennessee courts and offices. He moved through public and private roles early on. Each step added courtroom time and practical experience.
Sweeney began his posted legal work in 2018 at Bednarz Law. He spent that year in a lawyer role before moving into public service the following year. In 2019 he served as an Assistant District Lawyer for the State of Tennessee in the 18th Judicial District. That role placed him inside the district’s prosecutorial office and gave him repeated exposure to trial practice and case processing.
After his time in the district office, Sweeney returned to private practice. In 2022 he joined The Ralston Firm as an associate lawyer. The next year he worked at Baker Foster Potter P.C., taking on responsibilities common to mid-career litigators: drafting pleadings, handling discovery, and appearing in court. Those positions broadened his experience on both sides of the courtroom and across different case types.
In 2024 Sweeney opened his own firm, The Sweeney Firm, PLLC, where he serves as owner and lawyer. Establishing a solo practice required him to manage both the legal work and the operational side of running a firm. He draws on the procedural knowledge gained in the district attorney’s office and the varied matters he handled at private firms. Colleagues describe him as practical and straightforward in the courtroom. Clients have noted that he prioritizes clear communication about case progress and next steps.
Throughout his career Sweeney has remained active in Tennessee’s legal community. He has moved between public prosecution and private defense and civil work, so he brings a range of courtroom experience to each new matter. He maintains a practice based in Tennessee state courts and handles cases that arise under state law. His current practice concentrates on representing clients in matters filed in Tennessee courts, where he handles litigation and courtroom appearances for individuals and local entities.
