About Greg

Greg Hartman trained first as an accountant, then as a lawyer. He earned a B.S. from the University of Oregon in 2000 and completed his J.D. at Santa Clara University School of Law in 2007. Those two credentials shape how he approaches financial and legal problems. They give him fluency in the numbers and the rules that govern them.

After law school, Hartman built a practice where both professions meet. He is licensed to practice in California and holds a CPA credential from the California Board of Accountancy. He is also pending certification as a Certified Insolvency & Restructuring Advisor through the American Insolvency and Restructuring Association (AIRA). He maintains current memberships in professional associations related to his fields of work.

Hartman's work sits at the intersection of accounting and bankruptcy. He represents individual and business clients in bankruptcy filings and in related insolvency matters. He prepares filings, advises on the financial disclosures that bankruptcy requires and negotiates with creditors and trustees. His background as a CPA informs his review of financial statements and tax issues that commonly accompany insolvency cases.

Colleagues describe him as deliberate and practical in assessing options for clients facing financial distress. He tends to take a case-driven approach: identify the facts, map the legal paths available, and choose the one that aligns with a client's immediate needs and longer-term financial picture. He handles both consumer bankruptcy matters and business reorganizations, often dealing with asset valuations, creditor claims and cash-flow analyses.

Hartman also advises on matters that sit outside formal bankruptcy but touch similar concerns, such as out-of-court workouts and restructuring negotiations. He prepares the sort of documentation lenders and distressed companies need when exploring alternatives to filing. His dual training allows him to speak the language of lenders, trustees, accountants and judges.

He practices from Hartman Bankruptcy Law and continues to accept matters in California. His current practice focuses on consumer and business bankruptcy, insolvency issues and financial restructuring matters.
