About Gerard
Gerard Miles built a steady legal career from classroom to courtroom. He completed undergraduate studies at Loyola College in 1975 and received his J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 1978. Those early academic years set the groundwork for a long practice in Maryland courts.
He entered private practice in the early 1980s. In 1982 he worked as an associate at Baker and Baker, P.A. That same year he joined Lerch & Huesman as a lawyer. Four years later he became a partner at Huesman, Jones & Miles, LLC, a position he assumed in 1986. The move to partnership marked a new phase, with greater responsibility for case strategy and client representation.
Miles is admitted to practice in Maryland, before the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has handled matters that required appearances in both federal and state forums. His courtroom work includes civil litigation and trial practice, and he has experience managing cases through discovery, motion practice and trial.
Beyond litigation, Miles has kept a presence in legal community institutions. He serves on the Lawyer Grievance Commission’s Peer Review Committee, reviewing matters that touch on professional conduct. He volunteers with Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service, offering pro bono assistance to clients who cannot afford counsel. He also contributes to legal education by judging rounds at the University of Maryland’s East Regional Mock Trial Tournament.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation and steady under pressure. He has taken on roles that require both detailed legal analysis and hands-on courtroom advocacy. Over the decades he has handled a range of civil disputes and guided younger lawyers in casework and trial tactics.
Miles practices from offices in Hunt Valley and Pikesville. He maintains a caseload that centers on civil litigation and trial matters, working in state and federal courts across the region.
