About Geoffrey

Geoffrey McDonald earned his law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law in 1986. He also studied at the University of Virginia and at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in the early 1980s. The combination of mainland and island study gave him a broad undergraduate and legal foundation before he launched his professional career.

His legal career moved into practice and leadership in the early 1990s. In 1993 he became CEO of Geoff McDonald & Associates PC. That title reflects long-term oversight of a small firm structure and day-to-day involvement in casework and firm management. He is licensed to practice in Virginia and has built a practice shaped largely by trial work and advocacy on behalf of injured workers and plaintiffs.

McDonald is active in professional circles that align with trial and plaintiff-side work. He holds current memberships in the American Association for Justice and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. He also serves on the board of the Workplace Injury Law and Advocacy Group and participates in Lawyers Helping Lawyers. These affiliations point to ongoing engagement with peer networks, trial practice trends, and resources for attorneys facing professional challenges.

In courtrooms, McDonald’s work centers on litigation for individuals who have suffered workplace injuries and other harms. He has handled cases that require preparation for trial, negotiation with insurers, and interactions with administrative systems that govern workers’ compensation. His practice involves fact development, legal research, and trial advocacy. Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who spends substantial time preparing cases for hearing and who values procedural rigor.

Outside of litigation, McDonald manages firm operations and client intake. Running a firm since 1993 has meant overseeing personnel, case strategy, and the business aspects that let a small practice serve clients consistently. He remains involved in local legal community efforts through his association memberships and by serving on a board that focuses on workplace injuries.

He continues to practice in Virginia, maintaining an active role in trial work and workplace injury advocacy. His current practice concentrates on representing people in workplace injury cases and related litigation matters.
