About Gary Paul
Gary Paul McFarling built a career that moves between numbers and the law. He began in finance and accounting. Over time he added a law degree and shifted into legal practice. The result is a profile that blends practical business sense with courtroom and transactional work.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Central Michigan University in 1984. He returned to graduate school at the University of Hawaii–Manoa and completed an MBA in International Business in 1991. He then attended Wayne State University Law School and received his J.D. in 1995. Those three steps — finance, international business, and law — form the spine of his professional trajectory.
After college he worked as an accountant and analyst in a variety of settings beginning in 1988. By the early 1990s he had moved into management at a financial institution, serving as a finance company manager in 1992. He took on a corporate controller role at a private enterprise in 1994, a job that placed him close to operational and financial decision-making at a senior level. Those years in accounting and corporate finance preceded his formal entry into the legal profession and continue to shape how he approaches legal problems.
Following law school Mr. McFarling practiced as a lawyer at a law office in 1998. That period marked a deliberate transition from corporate finance to legal practice. His background gives him an ability to parse financial documents, analyze transactional risk, and advise clients on regulatory and commercial issues. He often works on matters where legal and financial concerns intersect.
He currently practices at Lawyers Serving You, LLC. His work centers on business and financial legal matters in Illinois. He maintains a practice that reflects his training in finance, international business and law, and he applies that combination to advising clients on transactional and corporate issues in the state of Illinois.
