About Gary D.
Gary D. Peak has built a career that moves between courtrooms and conference rooms. He trained in trial advocacy at the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyer College in 2014 and later took on a representative role for Region 4 at the same college. His academic record shows a law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1987 and an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984.
His early legal work began at the 11th District Court of Appeals, where he served as a briefing lawyer in 1987. That experience helped him learn appellate procedure and legal writing under real case pressure. In 1989 he worked at Boswell & Hallmark PC. By 1995 he was practicing as a lawyer and mediator under his own name, establishing Gary D. Peak, Lawyer & Mediator.
Over the years Peak has been an active member of several professional groups. He joined the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association in 2000 and remains a member. More recently he became involved in organizations that reflect the types of matters he handles: the DUI Defense Lawyers Association since 2018 and the Texas Association of Family Defense Lawyers as a charter member beginning in 2020. His ongoing role as Region 4 Representative at the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyer College dates from 2014 and continues today.
Clients and colleagues describe Peak as practical in court and direct in negotiation. He has handled criminal defense and DUI matters and also works in family defense contexts, informed by his memberships in relevant professional associations. He also offers mediation services, applying tools learned in both trial and negotiation settings. His combined background in appellate briefing, private practice, trial training and mediation gives him a broad view of how cases can resolve at multiple stages.
Peak’s practice blends litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He is licensed in Texas and has been active there throughout his career. He balances courtroom advocacy with mediated settlements, adapting his approach to the needs of the case and the client. He currently practices as a lawyer and mediator at Gary D. Peak, Lawyer & Mediator, concentrating on criminal and DUI defense and mediation.
