About Francis G.
Francis G. Murphy built a legal foundation that spans U.S. and Irish universities before he ever argued a case. He earned a B.A. from Rhode Island College in 1974, completed an M.A. at University College Dublin in 1976, and graduated from Fordham University School of Law in 1981. Those years established both the academic and practical base he would draw on through a long career in New England courts.
His early professional years were spent inside the courthouse. In 1981 he began as a law clerk and senior law clerk to judges on the New Hampshire Superior Court. He moved to the New Hampshire Supreme Court in 1983 to serve as law clerk to Justice William Batchelder. Those clerkships placed him at the center of state trial and appellate work and familiarized him with judicial reasoning and courtroom procedure.
By 1984 Murphy had taken private practice roles and was listed as lawyer, shareholder and director at Stewart & Murphy, P.A. There he carried responsibilities typical of small-firm practice: managing cases, advising clients and supervising other lawyers. In 2010 he joined Shaheen & Gordon, P.A. as a lawyer and is shown as becoming a partner there in 2012. His career thus reflects long stretches of both independent practice and work inside a larger regional firm.
Murphy is admitted to several courts across state and federal lines. His jurisdictions include Massachusetts and New Hampshire state bars, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire, the First Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. That combination allows him to handle matters at trial, on appeal and in federal court when necessary.
Professional affiliation has continued alongside practice. He holds memberships in the New Hampshire Bar Association, the Nashua Bar Association and the New Hampshire Association for Justice. He is also associated with the Keenan Trial Institute. These memberships indicate ongoing engagement with local bar activities, continuing education and trial practice networks.
Over the decades Murphy has moved through clerking, small-firm leadership and partnership in a regional firm. He has handled work that touches state and federal courts and has maintained ties to trial-focused organizations. He currently practices at Shaheen & Gordon, P.A., where his work centers on litigation in the state and federal courts that admit him.
