About Evan

Evan Horwitz has spent more than two decades practicing law in North Carolina. He handles family law matters and related litigation, working on cases that range from straightforward contested divorces to more complex custody and support disputes.

He earned his B.A. in 1997 from Indiana State University, where his studies were in criminal history. He completed his J.D. at Campbell Law School in 2001 and moved quickly into appellate work. That same year he served as a law clerk to Justice Robert F. Orr of the North Carolina Supreme Court, an early experience that exposed him to the mechanics of the state’s highest court.

In 2002 Horwitz joined Manning, Fulton & Skinner PA as an associate. He spent the next several years developing trial and courtroom skills. In 2008 he became a partner at Tharrington Smith, LLP, where he has worked since and taken on a broader slate of matters and responsibilities.

Outside of firm practice, Horwitz has taught law students. He served as an adjunct professor at Campbell University School of Law in 2010. That role kept him connected to legal education and to the next generation of North Carolina lawyers.

Horwitz holds board certification from the North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in family law. The credential marks a formal recognition of his experience in that area of practice. He also maintains memberships in several professional organizations, including the North Carolina Bar Association Family Law Section, the American Bar Association, the Wake County Bar Association and the 10th Judicial District Bar. He is a member of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina and the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.

Colleagues describe Horwitz as a lawyer who blends courtroom experience with an understanding of procedural and appellate issues. He has handled matters that require attention to both client needs and the shifting legal landscape in family law.

He practices at Tharrington Smith, LLP and focuses his work on family law matters in North Carolina.
