About Ethan

Ethan White built his legal foundations in two Midwestern universities. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Information Systems and Finance from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, completing the degree in 2000 after beginning studies in 1996. He later returned to school and received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 2008.

Straight out of law school he joined the federal courthouse. In 2008 he served as a judicial law clerk to a judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. That year in chambers gave him an early immersion in federal procedure, opinion writing and courtroom practice.

He moved into private practice as an associate at Mayer Brown in 2010. The large-firm environment exposed him to complex litigation and multi-party matters. In 2013 he became a partner at LeonardMeyer LLP, a step that broadened his responsibilities to include case strategy, client counseling and mentoring younger attorneys. In the same year he returned to Northwestern as an adjunct professor, teaching trial advocacy. The course allowed him to translate courtroom tactics into classroom drills and to work directly with law students preparing for trial work.

In 2018 he took on a leadership role as managing partner at Emery Law, Ltd. His tenure there has involved overseeing firm operations while continuing an active caseload. He remains a member of the State Bar of Illinois and holds memberships in the Illinois State Bar Association and the DuPage County Bar Association. Those affiliations place him in regular contact with colleagues across the state and provide forums for continuing legal education and professional discussion.

His background combines time on the bench, years in large-firm litigation and leadership in a regional firm. That mix informs how he approaches disputes: attention to procedural detail, an emphasis on trial preparation and an effort to match courtroom tactics to client goals. Outside of the courtroom and classroom, he has supervised teams handling discovery and motion practice and has been responsible for training programs for associates. He practices in Illinois and maintains an active role at Emery Law, Ltd. His current practice centers on civil litigation and trial work.
