About Erik

Erik Ashman built his legal foundation through successive academic steps. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of North Carolina - Wilmington in 2003. He then attended Elon University School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2011. Those years shaped his approach to courtroom work and client counseling.

His first professional role after law school placed him in criminal defense. In 2011 he joined Neaves and Gillespie, P.A., where he handled a range of criminal matters. That early period offered frequent courtroom appearances and front-line experience in motion practice, plea negotiations and trial preparation. The pace was fast and the stakes clear. He learned to manage evidence, build case themes and explain legal options to people facing serious consequences.

By 2014 Ashman shifted toward family law when he took a position at The Law Offices of Lyndon R. Helton, PLLC. There he began representing clients in divorce, custody and support matters. The work demanded different skills: extended client planning, negotiation over parenting time, and careful attention to financial disclosures. He handled contested hearings and settlement discussions, often balancing emotive issues with technical legal questions.

In 2018 he joined Olsinski Law Office as a family law lawyer. That role consolidated his practice in domestic relations. Over the years he has worked on contested divorces, post-judgment modifications and custody disputes. He maintains membership in the Mecklenburg County Bar Association and participates in local bar activities. Colleagues describe him as methodical in case preparation and straightforward in client communication. He favors clear explanations over legalese and seeks practical solutions rather than unnecessary litigation.

Outside the courtroom his background in political science informs his view of how law affects families and communities. He has experience guiding clients through the procedural steps of family court and often handles collaborative negotiations as well as litigated matters. He draws on earlier criminal-defense experience when cases touch on domestic-related criminal issues.

He practices in North Carolina and is based at Olsinski Law Office. He currently represents clients in family law matters at Olsinski Law Office.
