About Erica M
Erica M Ducoing built her path to law on a solid academic base. She earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 2014. Four years later she completed her Juris Doctor and a graduate degree in comparative law at Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University, finishing in 2018.
Her early years after law school took place in northwest Louisiana. She joined Thomas, Soileau, Jackson & Cole, LLP where she developed practical courtroom and litigation experience. Colleagues say she adapts to the caseload common in regional defense firms. Her work there has involved routine client representation, motion practice and discovery management, and appearances in state courts across Louisiana.
Ducoing is active in the local legal community. She serves on the Young Lawyers Committee of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel and holds the role of Communications Chair for that committee. She is also a member of both the Bossier Parish Bar Association and the Shreveport Bar Association. Those memberships have kept her connected to peers and to continuing legal education programs in the region.
Her academic training in comparative law complements her state-law practice by offering a broader view of legal systems. That background informs how she approaches statutory interpretation and procedural issues. She also brings her undergraduate study in psychology to client interactions and case preparation, particularly in assessing witness testimony and in preparing witnesses for depositions.
In the office she handles a mix of civil defense matters typical for a regional firm. Much of her docket involves responding to tort claims, participating in pretrial proceedings and preparing cases for possible trial. She has taken on responsibility for client communication and case strategy at various stages of litigation. Her peers describe her as detail-oriented in drafting pleadings and thorough in discovery responses.
Outside of court and firm responsibilities, Ducoing’s committee work at the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel has involved managing communications for young lawyers. That role has her coordinating notices, event information and committee outreach within the organization.
She lives and practices in Louisiana. Her current practice concentrates on civil defense litigation for clients represented by Thomas, Soileau, Jackson & Cole, LLP.
