About Eric

Eric Whitehead built a legal foundation in the classroom before moving into practice. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Law & Policy and Political Science from Dickinson College in 2011. He then completed his juris doctor at the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, graduating in 2014.

His early years in the profession were spent in clerkships and support roles that exposed him to litigation and corporate practice. In 2013 he worked as a law clerk at Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker LLP and held a regional operations internship at Chubb, then ACE Group. After law school he returned to clerk work at Berry Appleman Leiden LLP in 2015 and moved into an associate role the same year at Ray Bourhis Associates.

Whitehead transitioned from firm life into in-house work in 2016 when he became corporate counsel at Quality Start Consulting. That post introduced him to the practical side of corporate compliance and contract work. Two years later he joined RPX Corporation in a role managing patent litigation claims. His title in 2018 was Manager, Patent Litigation Claims, a position that placed him at the intersection of intellectual property strategy and litigation management.

His practice sits at the crossroads of patent litigation and corporate legal operations. He has handled matters that require coordinating outside counsel, assessing asserted patents, and managing claim budgets and dispute timelines. His time at a global insurer and at a consulting firm gave him exposure to operations and risk evaluation, which inform how he approaches litigation portfolios and corporate legal issues.

Whitehead is admitted to practice in California and is authorized to appear before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Those admissions support his work on matters that can span state and federal forums. Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in handling complex patent issues and attentive to the commercial implications of litigation choices.

He has worked in both law firm and corporate environments, which gives him a view of how litigation strategy aligns with business objectives. That experience shapes how he manages claims and communicates with stakeholders. As of the latest available information, he is based at RPX Corporation, where his work centers on patent litigation claims and related legal matters.
