About Eric
Eric Swinyard trained in two fields at the same time. He earned both a Juris Doctor and an MBA from the University of Arizona in 2013 after completing a bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of Utah in 2010. That mix of law and business shapes how he approaches family law problems. He brings a background in economic reasoning to the often personal issues that come through his door.
While in law school he worked as a summer associate at The Ledbetter Law Office in 2013 and served as a graduate teaching assistant in the University of Arizona’s economics department in 2012. Those early roles gave him experience on both the analytical and practical sides of legal work. They also helped him transition quickly from classroom theory to courtroom preparation and client counseling.
In 2014 he established his own practice, Eric M. Swinyard & Associates, PLLC, and began handling divorce and family law matters. Since that year he has held membership in the Utah State Bar. Building a small firm allowed him to manage cases end to end. He handles paperwork, client interviews, settlement negotiations and court appearances. His caseload has centered on divorce, parenting plans and property division, the day-to-day work that drives most family law practices.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic and direct in the way he presents options to clients. He tends to break complicated financial and legal issues into clear parts. That approach can be useful when couples face contested property splits or when parents must develop parenting time arrangements. He also draws on his business training when financial disclosures and valuations matter in a case.
Swinyard’s practice is focused on representing individuals in family law disputes in Utah. He balances courtroom readiness with efforts to find settlements when a negotiated outcome will better serve a client. Outside the office he has maintained an ongoing relationship with the Utah State Bar since becoming a member in 2014. He currently handles family law matters such as divorce, child custody and related issues.
