About Eric R.

Eric R. Gielow built his legal foundation at Western Michigan University, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1973. He stayed in the same academic community for law school and earned his J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 1981. Those years immersed him in the practical and academic sides of law, shaping a steady approach to practice that has carried through his career.

After receiving his law degree, Gielow moved into private practice. Over the decades that followed he maintained a steady presence in the legal community and joined the firm Gielow Groom Terpstra & McEvoy. His time in practice spans a period of substantial change in the profession, from paper files and brick-and-mortar research to the digitized workflows of today. He has adapted his work style as the profession evolved, while keeping a consistent orientation toward client service.

Throughout his career, Gielow’s work has involved direct representation and client advising. He has spent time in settings that required courtroom appearances, negotiated settlements, and detailed preparation of legal documents. Colleagues describe him as methodical in his approach to case preparation and clear in his communication, preferring straightforward explanations over jargon. He has drawn on his academic training and years in practice to guide clients through procedural and substantive legal questions.

Gielow has been part of teams handling a variety of matters. Those collaborative experiences informed his understanding of legal strategy and practice management. He has worked alongside other attorneys at his firm to resolve disputes and to counsel clients on legal options. This team-oriented work reflects a practical mindset: match resources to client needs and pursue solutions that are durable rather than temporary.

Today, Gielow continues to practice at Gielow Groom Terpstra & McEvoy. He remains engaged in the daily work of representing and advising clients, applying decades of experience to contemporary legal problems. His current practice focuses on the types of matters handled at Gielow Groom Terpstra & McEvoy.
