About Jacob
Jacob Baelstrom built a foundation in economics before turning to law. He earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2016. He then attended the University of Minnesota Law School, completing his J.D. in 2019 with coursework concentrated in business law.
He went straight into practice after law school. In 2019 he joined Gielow Groom Terpstra & McEvoy as an associate. His early years at the firm involved day-to-day client work, research, drafting and courtroom preparation when matters required it.
Baelstrom is licensed to practice in Michigan and was admitted to the bar in 2019. He maintains membership in the State Bar of Michigan and in the Muskegon County Bar Association, both since 2019. Those memberships anchor him in the state’s legal community and connect him to local practice trends.
His background in economics informs how he approaches business law questions. At the firm he handles corporate and commercial matters, including transactional work, contract drafting, and advice for small and midsize businesses. He also assists clients facing commercial disputes, preparing pleadings and coordinating with outside counsel when matters move toward litigation.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in document work and direct in client communications. He aims to explain legal risks in plain language and to set realistic expectations about timing and likely outcomes. That practical bent shapes how he structures deals and how he advises clients during tense negotiations.
He remains at Gielow Groom Terpstra & McEvoy and works primarily on business and corporate matters in Michigan.
