About Eric M.
Eric M. Schlimgen trained in South Dakota and returned there to build a law practice that blends courtroom experience and local ties. He holds a J.D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law (2013). He also earned graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of South Dakota: a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in political science and criminal justice.
His first legal position after law school was a judicial clerkship. In 2016 he served as a law clerk for the Unified Judicial System, Fourth Judicial Circuit. That year in chambers gave him regular exposure to trial procedure and written opinion drafting. The next step came in 2017, when he joined Clayborne, Loos & Sabers as an associate attorney. In private practice he handled litigation and client counseling across state and federal matters.
In 2020 Schlimgen opened his own firm, Schlimgen Law Office. As owner he has overseen case selection, courtroom strategy and client communications. The office handles matters that arise in state courts and in the federal system. His practice spans multiple jurisdictions; he is admitted in South Dakota, Wyoming and before the Federal Circuit.
Peers and directories have recognized his work. Martindale-Hubbell listings note an AV Preeminent rating and a Distinguished Peer Rated for High Professional Achievement. He has also received Client Champion Platinum and Gold designations through the same directory. Those entries reflect peer review and client feedback rather than formal court honors.
Professional involvement has been part of his career. He belongs to the Wyoming State Bar and the Pennington County Bar Association, both memberships starting in 2017 and listed as current. He also served in a membership role with the Rapid City Arts Council from 2018 through 2021. Those connections have kept him engaged with legal colleagues and the broader community.
Colleagues describe Schlimgen as methodical in preparing cases and direct when addressing legal issues. He has handled litigation and appellate filings and worked in judicial chambers, giving him a range of procedural experience. He continues to represent clients in matters across the jurisdictions where he is admitted, operating his practice from Schlimgen Law Office.
He currently practices at Schlimgen Law Office and represents clients in state and federal matters in South Dakota, Wyoming and the Federal Circuit.
