About Eric
Eric Lewis practices bankruptcy law across Indiana and Illinois. He is based in Indianapolis and works from the Indianapolis Bankruptcy Law Office. Over the years he has handled a range of matters that touch on personal debt relief and business reorganizations.
Lewis is licensed to practice in both Illinois and Indiana. He has experience preparing petitions, negotiating with creditors, and guiding clients through Chapter 7, Chapter 13 and Chapter 11 processes. His work spans consumer filings and commercial restructurings. He also advises creditors on claim administration and proof of claim contests when those matters arise.
From 2009 through 2021 Lewis was a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association. That period included regular engagement with local practitioners and attendance at bar programs on developments in bankruptcy law. He maintained ties to the Indianapolis legal community while representing clients in bankruptcy courts and in related negotiations.
Colleagues describe his approach as methodical and pragmatic. He looks to clarify the options available at each stage of a case, whether the task is preparing schedules and statements or crafting a plan for repayment. He tends to break complex financial problems into discrete steps, so clients can weigh trade-offs and make informed decisions.
Lewis’s practice involves both contested and uncontested matters. He has worked on relief from stay motions, preference and fraudulent transfer issues, and the resolution of secured creditor claims. On the consumer side he spends time explaining dischargeability issues and the impact of bankruptcy on credit and future borrowing. On the business side he assists owners and managers weighing the costs and benefits of liquidation versus reorganization.
Outside of formal membership in the Indianapolis Bar Association he keeps current on procedural and statutory changes that affect bankruptcy practice in the Seventh Circuit and in state courts across Illinois and Indiana. He brings practical courtroom experience together with negotiation work at the creditors’ table. He currently practices bankruptcy law at the Indianapolis Bankruptcy Law Office.
