Eric J. Ball is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 2005. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Ball is a partner at Fenwick & West LLP, a law firm specializing in intellectual property and technology law, with offices in Mountain View, California. He has been practicing law for over 20 years, serving clients throughout the Silicon Valley area and beyond.
Mr. Ball earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 2005. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Rhetoric and Legal Studies in 2001. During his time at UC Berkeley, he developed a strong foundation in legal principles and critical thinking, which have been instrumental in his legal career.
Mr. Ball concentrates his practice in the areas of trademark litigation, copyright disputes, and complex commercial litigation. He represents both startups and established companies in matters involving trademark enforcement, brand protection, and intellectual property rights. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. He has successfully defended and prosecuted multiple trademark litigations and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings, with a particular emphasis on priority disputes and matters asserting reverse confusion.
Throughout his career, Mr. Ball has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Santa Clara, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board on numerous occasions. Prior to joining Fenwick & West, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in San Francisco for five years, gaining extensive experience in intellectual property litigation.
Mr. Ball is an active member of the State Bar of California and has been recognized for his contributions to the field of trademark law. He has been honored with JD Supra’s Readers’ Choice Award for his thought leadership in the trademark space and has been recognized by The Legal 500 and World Trademark Review 1000 as a leading trademark litigator. He regularly writes and gives talks on IP issues and disputes involving gaming and mobile apps. Mr. Ball is fluent in English and has a working knowledge of Spanish, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
