About Eric J.
Eric J. Allen built a career that bridges public affairs and the law. He began in a communications environment and later moved into legal practice. The shift gave him a mix of skills that shape how he approaches cases and client work today.
He holds a diploma in Journalism and Public Affairs from the Department of Defense Information School, earned in 1994. He went on to study political science at St. Edward's University, receiving a B.A. in 2006. Allen completed his legal education at The University of Texas School of Law, earning a J.D. in 2009. Those steps—from military-focused communications training to political science and then law—provide a varied academic foundation.
Before entering private practice, Allen’s background in journalism and public affairs exposed him to high-pressure communication tasks and issues of public accountability. That early experience trained him to write clearly and to think about how legal strategies play out in the public arena. He brought those habits into law school and into his subsequent legal career.
After law school, Allen began practicing in Texas. He has maintained professional memberships and stays engaged with the legal community. Over the years he developed practical courtroom and advisory skills, applying them to matters that require careful factual development and thoughtful argument. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing cases and attentive to the details that matter in litigation and negotiations.
Allen is based at Zehl & Associates in Texas. He represents clients under the jurisdiction of the Texas bar and manages the everyday responsibilities of a practicing attorney: preparing pleadings, counseling clients, and appearing in court when necessary. His education and early career in communications continue to inform his approach to case presentation and client interaction.
He currently practices at Zehl & Associates in Texas, where his work centers on litigation and client representation.
