About Eric C.
Eric C. Perkins built his legal foundation at the University of Virginia. He earned a B.A. in economics there in 1993. He stayed on to complete a J.D. at the University of Virginia School of Law in 1996. Those years in Charlottesville shaped his approach to business law and introduced him to the practical demands of advising companies.
He began his professional career at Hirschler Fleischer in 1996. There he worked on corporate and commercial matters and learned the routines of a mid‑sized firm. The role offered steady exposure to business clients and transactional work. After more than a decade in practice, Perkins struck out on his own.
In 2009 he opened Perkins Law, PLLC. He is the firm's founding owner. The move to start a small firm reflected a preference for hands‑on client work and direct involvement in business matters. Perkins has continued to represent companies, franchisors and business owners, handling contracts, structuring deals and advising on regulatory considerations. He has maintained a practice centered on business and franchise matters rather than litigation alone.
Perkins has been active in professional groups that intersect with the franchise sector. He has been a member of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Franchising since 1997. He also helped organize the Virginia Franchise Forum through the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce beginning in 2008, a role he has carried forward. Those affiliations have kept him connected to peers who advise franchisors and franchisees and to developments affecting the industry.
Colleagues describe him as someone who prefers clear, practical solutions. He tends to handle the drafting and negotiation work that typically accompanies business formation and franchise relationships. His day‑to‑day practice involves preparing agreements, advising on compliance issues and counseling clients on the structure of their operations. He approaches those tasks with an emphasis on predictability and client communication.
Perkins is licensed in Virginia and has organized his practice around the law and business needs of the region’s companies. He has chosen to focus his professional life on the legal questions that arise when businesses form and grow, rather than on courtroom advocacy. He focuses his practice on franchise law, corporate matters and related commercial issues.
