About Emily M.
Emily M. Gause trained in the law at Seattle University School of Law, earning her J.D. in 2011 after undergraduate study at Washington State University where she completed a B.A. in criminal justice and sociology in 2006. Her academic work emphasized criminal defense and the social forces that shape the criminal justice system. The timeline of her education laid a practical groundwork for the courtroom work that followed.
Gause began her legal career in public defense. In 2010 she served as a Rule 9 lawyer at the Northwest Defenders Association, taking on appointed criminal matters and building experience in client interviews, hearings, and trial preparation. The following year she joined the Law Offices of John Henry Browne, P.S., where she continued in criminal defense and developed familiarity with both misdemeanor and felony litigation in Washington courts.
In 2014 she opened Gause Law Offices PLLC. Since then she has handled a range of criminal cases across state courts and in the Ninth Circuit. Her practice draws on early public defense work and private litigation experience. Colleagues and court records show a pattern of casework that includes pretrial motions, hearings, negotiations, and trials, although she does not publicize individual case details here.
Outside the courtroom she maintains memberships in several professional organizations that reflect her area of practice. She has been a member of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Washington Defender Association, Washington Women Lawyers, and the bar associations of King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties since 2011. She also holds a notary commission through the National Notary Association. These memberships provide forums for continuing legal education and peer discussion on criminal law developments in Washington and federal practice in the Ninth Circuit.
Gause’s approach to cases is informed by years of courtroom work and by steady involvement in local bar groups. She handles pretrial advocacy and trial-level representation and appears in federal matters where required. She currently practices criminal defense at Gause Law Offices PLLC, representing clients in state and federal criminal matters.
