Emily Doskow is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. She was admitted to the California State Bar in 1989. Her license is currently in active status. Ms. Doskow is the principal attorney at her own firm, located at 66 Franklin Street, Suite 300, Oakland, CA 94607. She has been practicing law for over 36 years, serving clients throughout the Bay Area.
Ms. Doskow earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) in 1989. Prior to law school, she completed her undergraduate education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature in 1984. During her time at Berkeley Law, she was actively involved in several organizations, including the Berkeley Law Foundation, Boalt Hall Women's Association, and the Boalt Hall Lesbian & Gay Caucus.
Ms. Doskow specializes in family law, focusing on areas such as adoption, parentage issues, domestic partnership formation and dissolution, and divorce. She represents individuals and families in matters involving prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements, as well as uncontested divorces. Her practice encompasses all stages of legal proceedings, including initial consultations, negotiations, mediation, and, when necessary, trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout her career, Ms. Doskow has handled cases in various courts, including the Superior Court of California for the County of Alameda and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. She has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. In addition to her private practice, she has been involved in public service, serving as a board member for organizations such as the National Center for Lesbian Rights and the Association for Dispute Resolution of Northern California.
Ms. Doskow is an active member of the California Lawyers Association, particularly the Family Law Section. She has contributed to the legal community through her authorship and editing of several publications, including "Nolo's Essential Guide to Divorce" and "The Legal Guide for Lesbian & Gay Couples." She is also a frequent speaker on LGBTQ+ family law issues and has been involved in community events, such as virtual AMAs discussing her work specializing in family law for LGBTQ+ and other communities.
