About Eli
Eli Heller graduated from Messiah College in 2005 and earned his J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law in 2013. His legal education provided a foundation in trial procedure and state practice. He returned to northeastern Ohio after law school and built a practice around courtroom work and client representation.
Heller began his career in public defense. In 2015 he joined the Portage County Public Defender’s Office, where he represented clients in state criminal proceedings. A year later he moved to the Summit County Legal Defender’s Office. Those early positions involved managing heavy dockets, appearing in arraignments and hearings, and preparing cases for trial. The public defender work shaped his approach to case preparation and courtroom presentation.
In 2017 Heller established the Law Offices of Lawyer Eli Heller as principal. Running his own office required shifting between client consultations, motion practice and courtroom appearances. He handled a variety of matters in state courts and developed practical experience in case strategy and negotiation. Managing a small practice also meant handling the administrative side of lawyering, from client intake to calendaring and billing.
After his time running a solo practice, Heller joined Hoover Kacyon, LLC as a lawyer. At the firm he continued to represent clients in Ohio courts and worked alongside colleagues on trial preparation and case management. He maintains active memberships in professional organizations, including the Ohio State Bar Association, the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Portage County Bar Association. Those affiliations keep him connected to developments in criminal law and local court procedures.
Heller is licensed to practice in Ohio and has spent his career focused on courtroom work at the county level. He is known in local circles for steady courtroom presence and a practical approach to case handling. He lives and practices in northeastern Ohio and routinely appears in state courts in the region. His current practice centers on criminal defense in Ohio state courts.
