About Edward H.

Edward H. Maginnis took a direct path into law after two degrees from the University of Virginia. He earned a B.A. in psychology and government in 1997 and returned to UVA for a J.D., which he received in 2001. The academic background left him comfortable with both the analytical and human sides of legal work.

He moved into private practice early in his career. In 2004 he worked at Foley & Lardner LLP, a platform that exposed him to large-firm practice and complex litigation support. By 2008 he had experience at Howrey LLP, where he continued to refine courtroom preparation and client representation. In 2009 he became a member of Maginnis Law, PLLC, where he has practiced since. Those transitions map a steady shift from national firm environments to a smaller practice setting.

Maginnis is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia and North Carolina. He maintains an active role in the local bar community in the Triangle. He holds membership in the Wake County Bar Association and serves as chair of the Consumer Areas of Practice Section for the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. That leadership post places him among practitioners who handle consumer-related disputes and advocate for trial practice standards in the state.

His work history suggests a blend of litigation experience and client counseling. At larger firms he handled matters that required coordination across practice groups. At his current firm he manages files directly, often taking cases through discovery and trial preparation. Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in court and deliberate in negotiation. He writes and speaks on procedural and evidentiary topics for local audiences when opportunities arise.

Maginnis practices from the firm’s Raleigh office. There he combines the procedural rigor developed at national firms with the hands-on client contact typical of smaller practices. He represents individuals and businesses in matters that often touch on consumer protections, contract disputes and contested hearings. He also frequently appears in state and federal forums within the jurisdictions to which he is admitted.

The arc of his career tracks a move from large-firm training to a practice where direct client work and courtroom presence take priority. He currently practices from the Raleigh office, handling consumer and civil litigation matters.
