About Edward
Edward Gudeman graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1971. He finished law school the same year he began building a solo practice. Early on he took on both management and client responsibilities. That year he is recorded as President and Managing Lawyer of Gudeman & Associates, P.C.
Gudeman’s path has a steady chronology. He joined the State Bar of Michigan and the Eastern District of Michigan in 1973. Two years earlier he had secured membership in the United States Tax Court and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. The following year he joined the United States Supreme Court Bar. Those admissions indicate a practice that has long crossed both federal and state lines. He has remained an active member of those bars for decades.
Practice labels do not capture the daily work he has handled. Over a long career he has represented individuals and businesses on matters that intersect bankruptcy, tax, and property. He became a member of the Consumer Bankruptcy Association in 2007 and joined the American Bankruptcy Institute in 2009. Those affiliations signal sustained involvement in bankruptcy practice. His work before tax and appellate courts complements that practice.
Outside the courtroom he added a credential that broadens the types of matters he can take on. He is a licensed real estate broker under the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. That credential allows him to advise on transactional and title issues from a practical as well as a legal standpoint. It also means he can handle certain real estate matters without relying solely on outside brokers.
Colleagues and clients who have worked with him describe a lawyer familiar with the procedural demands of federal courts and the paperwork of complex consumer bankruptcies. He has handled filings and appeals in multiple jurisdictions and maintained memberships in federal courts for much of his career. Those memberships span the trial and appellate levels that frequently shape bankruptcy and tax disputes.
His firm affiliation is long-standing. Gudeman & Associates, P.C. has been the vehicle for his practice since 1971, where he served as President and Managing Lawyer. The firm has been the primary office through which he filed cases and advised clients over the years.
As of 2026 he remains active in the bars and associations listed and continues to practice. He currently handles consumer bankruptcy, tax matters, and real estate issues in his private practice.
