E. Parker Herring studied journalism before turning to law. He earned a B.A. in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975 and later received a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1985. Those academic years anchor a career that has stayed centered in North Carolina.
After law school, Herring spent a year clerking for the North Carolina Court of Appeals. That early exposure to appellate work gave him a close view of courtroom procedure and judicial decision-making. He moved from the appellate chambers into private practice and eventually helped establish Herring & Mills, PLLC, where he serves as a founding partner.
