About E. Michael
E. Michael Linscheid took an early interest in public policy and the courtroom. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and History from the University of California at San Diego in 1999, then moved north to study law. He received his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2002. At USF he served on law review as a staff member and Articles Editor, finished as a finalist in the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association mock trial, and completed the school’s Intensive Advocacy Program, experiences that shaped his approach to litigation.
After law school Linscheid entered practice in California. He is admitted to the state bar and to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Early in his career he joined several professional organizations that align with trial and criminal work. He has been a member of the California DUI Lawyers Association since 2004 and has maintained memberships in the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the California Public Defender’s Association since the same year. He was also active in the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association during the 2000s.
Those affiliations reflect the kinds of matters that have occupied much of his docket. Linscheid’s background in trial advocacy and his experience in mock trial settings informed a practice that often involves contested hearings and courtroom strategy. He has handled a range of criminal-defense matters, including cases that require negotiation and those that proceed to trial. The work calls for attention to evidentiary detail, procedural timing and direct witness work, areas where his training at USF was formative.
Colleagues and opposing counsel describe him as straightforward and methodical. He tends to approach cases by isolating discrete factual disputes and addressing legal questions step by step. That posture can be practical in plea discussions and in motions practice, and it serves trial preparation as well. His involvement in national and state criminal-defense organizations has kept him engaged with developments in DUI law and criminal procedure.
Linscheid maintains an office in the Law Chambers Building. He handles matters across California and is admitted to appeal in the Ninth Circuit. His current practice concentrates on criminal defense and DUI representation.
