About Dr. Mitchell
Dr. Mitchell Kohl built two careers before he turned 30. He completed a B.S. in Biological Sciences at Arizona State University in 2013, earned his M.D. from Creighton University in 2017, and added a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2021. The sequence is simple on paper but rare in practice: medical training followed by legal education.
His early professional life ran through clinics and hospitals. He maintained a connection to clinical medicine through memberships and board affiliations. He was listed with the American Board of Family Medicine from 2014 to 2018 and has been a member of the American Medical Association since 2014. Those ties remain part of his professional identity as he moved into law.
Kohl spent two years clerking in plaintiff-side firms while in law school. In 2019 he worked as a law clerk at McKeen & Associates, and in 2020 he served as a law clerk at Kline & Specter. After graduation he joined Frank D. Azar, & Associates, PC as a lawyer in 2021. He is admitted to practice in Colorado and in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
He holds active medical licenses across multiple state boards. Those licenses include the State of Missouri, the State of Nebraska, the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners, the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health Professions, and the State Medical Board of Ohio. That regulatory background gives him practical familiarity with physician licensure and hospital credentialing systems.
On the professional association side, Kohl became a Fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine in 2022. He also joined the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association in 2021. These memberships reflect a continuing engagement in both medical and legal communities and a particular interest in the overlap between clinical practice and litigation.
His work combines clinical experience and courtroom practice. He handles cases where medical facts are central and where technical understanding of care can shape legal strategy. At Frank D. Azar, & Associates, PC he practices as a lawyer and draws on both degrees in evaluating and pursuing cases. His current practice focuses on medical-legal matters.
