Douglas Senger Saeltzer is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1994. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Saeltzer is a partner at Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger, a San Francisco-based law firm specializing in personal injury and product liability cases. Mr. Saeltzer earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings College of the Law) in 1994. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Los Angeles, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1991. During his time at UC Hastings, he was a member of the Constitutional Law Quarterly.
Mr. Saeltzer concentrates his practice in personal injury litigation, product liability, and mass torts. He represents individuals and businesses in matters involving defective products, construction-related accidents, nursing home abuse and neglect, medical malpractice, brain injuries, wrongful death, and various other causes. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Saeltzer has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of San Francisco, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to joining Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger in 1998, he served as a prosecutor in the United States Army Judge Advocate General Corps, where he was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain. His military achievements include receiving the Meritorious Service Medal for his work as a prosecuting attorney.
Mr. Saeltzer is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for Justice, the Consumer Attorneys of California, and the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association. He was elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) in 2010. He has been continuously selected as a Northern California Super Lawyer since 2010 and was honored as the "Trial Lawyer of the Year" by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association in 2011. Additionally, he has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America since 2011 and holds an "AV" peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest such ranking for legal ability and ethics available to an individual attorney.
