About Douglas Paul

Douglas Cohn is a family law attorney based in Bethesda, Maryland, with over 30 years of experience in the field. He has been practicing family law since 1985, focusing on divorce, child custody, property division, child support, and alimony cases. His experience includes serving as a family court magistrate and guardian ad litem in Vermont. This gives a knowledge of family law matters. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland in 1980 and his Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School in 1984. After a year of practice in Massachusetts, he relocated to Montpelier, Vermont, where he clerked in two state attorney offices and began concentrating on family law.

During his time in Vermont, he was involved in the Washington County Family Court Project, which implemented various new programs within family court. He also served as a Family Court Magistrate, guardian ad litem in divorce cases, and represented parties in juvenile matters. Additionally, he taught family law, legal research and writing, and legal analysis at Woodbury College in Montpelier during the 1990s. In 1998, Attorney Cohn was appointed to the trial court bench as a Family Court Magistrate for the State of Vermont, adjudicating cases involving alimony, child support, visitation, domestic abuse matters. He later moved back to Maryland, where he worked for Brodsky, Greenblatt and Renehan, Chartered, before opening his own practice in Bethesda. He is committed to providing responsive and experienced guidance in family law issues, treating each case as unique and giving it the attention it deserves. He works closely with clients to determine the best process to move forward and reach an agreement concerning minor children, financial issues, or both. His philosophy is to help clients get their emotional and financial needs met, whether through mediation, collaborative law, or a traditional court process. Attorney Cohn is involved in various community activities, including serving on the boards of the Washington County Family Center in Vermont and his local synagogue.
