About Douglas K. W.

Douglas K. W. Landau trained first as a student of the sciences and then turned to law. He earned a B.A. from Boston University in 1978 and completed additional study at Boston University’s Sargent College in Applied Anatomy and Physiology in 1981. He received his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1985 and served as editor in chief of the law school newspaper while enrolled there.

Early in his legal life Landau gained wide exposure to trial and appellate practice. He clerked for Judge Aaron Levine in 1981 and spent summers and internships at firms and public interest groups in Florida, London and elsewhere. Those placements included work with Trial Lawyers for Public Justice and a stint in London at Robin Thompson & Partners. He also worked in the Florida State Lawyer’s Office, and during law school he worked with Costello & Shea.

Landau moved quickly into firm practice after law school. He began as an associate in 1985 and held associate positions through the late 1980s and 1990, working with firms such as Hall, Surovell, Jackson & Colten, Ashcraft & Gerel, and Connerton, Ray & Simon. In 1991 he took on a principal role at Abrams Landau, Ltd., and in 1996 he served as a partner at Allred, Bacon, Halfhill, Landau & Young. He resumed his role as principal at Abrams Landau, Ltd. in 2000.

Across those years he built a practice that touches litigation in several jurisdictions. He is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey and before the U.S. Supreme Court. His career shows repeated engagement with trial work, plaintiff and defense environments, and a range of procedural and substantive issues that arise in contested cases.

Colleagues describe Landau as a lawyer who brings practical courtroom experience to case preparation and client counseling. He has alternated periods in firm leadership with hands-on trial and pretrial work. That balance has shaped how he approaches complex matters and how he prepares witnesses and evidence for trial.

He continues to practice from Abrams Landau, Ltd. and remains active in litigation across the jurisdictions where he is licensed. He concentrates his practice on litigation, including product liability and civil trial matters.
