About Douglas E

Douglas E. White studied political science as an undergraduate and took the law school path that followed naturally. He earned a B.A. in Political Science from James Madison University and later received his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law. During his time at Richmond, he developed courtroom skills that would shape his practice.

After law school he became licensed to practice in Virginia. Much of his career has been spent in private practice. He is an attorney at Riley & Wells, where he has handled courtroom work, written briefs and argued motions. His day-to-day work combines courtroom preparation, client counseling and legal research.

While at the University of Richmond School of Law, he was selected for The Order of Barristers. That honor is awarded to those who distinguish themselves in oral advocacy and brief writing. The training and competitions that accompany such recognition gave him early experience in oral argument and courtroom procedure.

Colleagues and clients have come to rely on the practical side of his work. He prepares witnesses, manages discovery, and oversees the procedural steps that keep cases on track. He also spends time drafting pleadings and motions. Those tasks make up a substantial portion of his practice. He handles the kinds of procedural and advocacy demands that arise in contested matters.

Outside of casework he maintains professional connections with the legal community. He holds membership in The Order of Barristers and participates in bar-related activities that are common for practicing attorneys in Virginia. He keeps current on changes in state law that affect his clients and integrates those developments into case strategy.

Today he practices in Virginia and is based at Riley & Wells. He balances courtroom appearances with behind-the-scenes work that prepares cases for trial or resolution. His current practice concentrates on courtroom advocacy and representation of clients in Virginia courts.
