About Douglas
Douglas Borthwick began his path to law in Ohio. He earned a B.A. in economics, business and religion from Muskingum College in 1984 and completed his J.D. at Capital University Law School in 1991. Those years established the academic grounding he would draw on during a long and varied practice.
He entered private practice in the early 1990s as an associate at the Law Offices of Garrett & Jensen. Over the next decade he moved into roles of increasing responsibility, serving as a senior associate at the Law Offices of Ahrens & Rosa by 2003. In 2005 he founded the Law Offices of Douglas Borthwick and has served as owner and president since then. That firm carries an AV Preeminent rating, a peer-review indicator of professional standing.
Borthwick has taken on a range of roles beyond traditional litigation. He served as of counsel at the Law Offices of Sasha Tymkowicz in 2015 and at Wenzel & Associates in 2016. He has worked as a mediator for OC Legal Help and has been active in community governance, including a term as president of the North Broadway Townhomes Association. He also serves as general counsel to FIND cures and sits on an advisory board addressing mortgage servicing fraud.
His professional affiliations trace a consistent connection to industry and defense work. He has held memberships in the Orange County Bar Association and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society since the mid-1990s and lists memberships in organizations relating to amusement and leisure defense, transportation law, and moving and storage. His association roster includes the American Association for Justice and the California DUI Association, among others. Those memberships reflect the range of clients and industries he has represented over the years.
Borthwick is admitted to practice in numerous jurisdictions, including Minnesota, Arkansas, Utah, Ohio, California, Nevada, Arizona and North Dakota, and he is admitted before the U.S. Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit. His practice has encompassed civil litigation, defense work for industry clients, matters involving transportation and amusement operators, and disputes touching mortgage servicing. He currently maintains his private practice at the Law Offices of Douglas Borthwick, serves as general counsel to FIND cures, and concentrates his practice on civil litigation and industry-related defense matters.
