About Doug
Doug Coe built a career that blends courtroom work, estate matters and a brief chapter in anti-human trafficking advocacy. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and Economics from Trinity University in 2008. He then completed his legal education at the University of Kansas School of Law, receiving a J.D. in 2013.
His earliest public-facing work came before law school. In 2008 he served on staff at the Institute for Trafficked, Exploited, and Missing Persons, working on anti-human trafficking efforts. After law school he joined Morris, Laing, Evans, Brock & Kennedy, Chtd. in 2013. That role introduced him to the practical demands of private practice and local litigation.
In 2016 he left to start his own firm, Legacy Legal, LLC. Running a small firm required a change of pace. He handled client intake, case management and the business side of law in addition to legal work. Two years later he took a position in the Tax, Trusts and Estate Department at Stinson Leonard Street LLP. There he worked alongside attorneys who specialize in estate planning and related tax issues, gaining experience in matters that often intersect with family dynamics and financial planning.
Coe is admitted to practice before the Kansas Supreme Court. He maintains active ties to the Wichita community. Since 2018 he has been involved with the Wichita Collegiate School Alumni Board and has served as president-elect. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Wichita, a role he has held since 2013. Those roles reflect ongoing engagement with local institutions where legal knowledge and civic interest meet.
Colleagues describe Coe as practical and direct in client meetings. He tends to break complex rules into plain language. That approach shapes how he handles estate planning and probate cases, and how he explains tax implications to individuals and small business owners. His background spans solo practice, a regional litigation firm and a larger firm department focused on trusts and tax.
Today he practices through Legacy Legal, LLC. He handles estate planning, trusts, probate and related tax matters for individuals and families in Kansas.
