About Dianne Herman

Dianne Herman Ellis began her professional life in health care before moving into law. She earned an A.S. in Nursing from the University of Mobile in 1991, then returned to school and received a B.S. from Tulane University in 2004. She completed her legal education at Mississippi College School of Law, earning her J.D. in 2007. The combination of clinical and legal training shapes how she approaches cases.

Her path from nursing to law is visible in the kinds of issues she takes on. After law school she became active in bar groups that concentrate on family disputes and child welfare. She is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and she participates in the Family Law Sections of both organizations. That involvement keeps her connected to evolving developments in state and federal practice.

Ellis holds certification as a Guardian Ad Litem through the Mississippi Bar Association. She also holds certifications linked to family law through both the Mississippi and American Bar Associations. Those credentials reflect added training and qualification to represent or evaluate the best interests of minors and vulnerable parties in court proceedings. She is admitted to practice in Mississippi and in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Her professional affiliations include service in the Mississippi Bar Association’s Family Law Section and membership in the LGBT Bar’s Family Law Institute. Those associations suggest an interest in the intersection of family law and community issues. She has worked in settings that require detailed fact-gathering, advocacy before judges, and coordination with social-services professionals.

Ellis practices from Ellis Law Office. There she handles matters that arise in family law contexts and serves in capacities that require court-appointed assessments on behalf of children. Her background in nursing has informed how she evaluates medical and developmental information in family court settings. Colleagues describe her as methodical in case preparation and attentive to procedural requirements.

She remains active in bar sections that focus on family law and child welfare and keeps current on state and federal rules of practice. Ellis continues to represent clients and serve in court-appointed roles from her office at Ellis Law Office. Her current practice concentrates on family law and guardian ad litem work.
