About Devin
Devin Whitt built his legal foundation at two institutions in the 1990s. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and political science from Athens State University in 1995. He then completed his juris doctor at Mississippi College School of Law in 1999.
After law school, Whitt spent a year inside the federal courthouse as a clerk to United States District Judge Tom S. Lee in 2002. The clerkship brought steady exposure to motion practice and opinion drafting. It also offered a close look at how trial-level decisions travel through the federal system.
Whitt moved into private practice the next year. In 2003 he worked as a lawyer at Burr & Forman, LLP. He shifted to Forman Perry Watkins Krutz & Tardy, LLP in 2004. Those roles placed him in established regional firms and gave him sustained experience handling matters that progressed through trial courts and federal dockets.
In 2006 he opened The Law Office of M. Devin Whitt, PLLC. He has operated the firm since then. The office provides representation in state and federal venues. Whitt is admitted to practice in Mississippi and Alabama. He is also admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Whitt maintains memberships in several professional organizations. He belongs to the Mississippi State Bar and the Alabama State Bar. He is also an active member of the Madison County Bar Association, the Hinds County Bar Association, the Rankin County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Those affiliations reflect a sustained presence in both local and statewide legal communities.
Colleagues describe Whitt as a lawyer who spent decades practicing across multiple court levels. He has worked in chambers, in firm settings, and as the principal of his own office. He continues to appear in state and federal courts and in bankruptcy proceedings. His current practice centers on litigation and related matters in state and federal courts, including cases filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Mississippi.
