About Derek Seilaroth

Derek Seilaroth Huoth came to law after studying numbers. He earned a B.A. in Accounting from the University of Washington School of Law in 2004 and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2008. The combination of accounting training and legal education shapes how he approaches problems. He tends to prefer practical answers over abstract theory.

Early in his career he worked at Fenwick & West LLP, where he was part of a team advising corporate clients. That experience exposed him to transactional work, contract negotiation and the regulatory issues companies face as they grow. He later moved into in-house roles and corporate offices, including a position with Tastemade, Inc., where legal and business considerations intersected around digital media and commercial partnerships.

Huoth is admitted to practice law in California and New York. He applies his dual background in law and accounting to address corporate governance, commercial agreements and financial aspects of business transactions. Colleagues describe him as methodical. He prefers to build clear records and practical playbooks for recurring problems.

His day-to-day work has involved drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, advising on corporate structure and helping clients align legal requirements with business operations. He has worked on matters that required coordination across departments, translating legal risk into operational steps. His accounting training helps him parse financial documents and spot issues that can affect deal terms or reporting obligations.

Outside the office he has participated in professional circles and stayed engaged with legal developments in both California and New York. He pays attention to changes in corporate law and regulations that affect technology and media companies. That attention helps him anticipate questions that clients will face when they expand or change course.

At present he maintains licensure in two major U.S. jurisdictions and continues to work for corporate clients and offices. He currently focuses his practice on corporate and commercial matters for businesses operating in California and New York.
