About Deborah R
Deborah R Coel trained as a historian before turning to law. She earned her J.D. from Whittier Law School in 2004 after studying history at Occidental College. She is licensed to practice in California and has balanced work in both public and private settings since entering the profession.
Her early professional years include a role in legal compliance at Experian in 2009. That position placed her inside a corporate legal environment and exposed her to regulatory work and internal controls. In 2011 she worked in the Contracts Department at the Superior Court of California, County of Orange, where she handled document review and contract-related processes for the court system.
Coel later moved into private practice. She operates under the Law Office of Deborah Coel, where she draws on her contract and compliance background in advising clients. Over time she has gravitated toward matters that intersect with elder law and estate planning. Colleagues and clients will most often encounter her on issues that require careful document drafting and procedural attention.
Her bar and community involvement extends beyond her practice. She has served in leadership roles in the Orange County Bar Association’s Elder Law Section as Secretary and Treasurer since 2017. She is also a member of the OCBA’s Trusts and Estates Section, a role she began the same year. Those positions keep her engaged with developments in conservatorship, probate administration, and related court practice. She is also a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners, joining that organization in 2019.
The combination of court-side contract work and corporate compliance experience has shaped how she approaches client matters. She tends to emphasize clarity in estate documents and practical planning steps that reduce the risk of later disputes. In probate or conservatorship cases she focuses on ensuring filings and notices meet procedural requirements and reflect clients’ intentions.
She maintains a private practice office where she meets with individuals and families about estate planning, trusts, probate administration, and elder law concerns. Her public-service and compliance background informs the procedural care she brings to each file. She currently practices at the Law Office of Deborah Coel, handling elder law and trusts and estates matters.
