About Luke S.

Luke S. Carlson studied political science at Chapman University before turning to law. He earned his J.D. from Western State College of Law at Argosy University in 2006. Those academic steps shaped both his approach to legal problems and his interest in community-based organizations.

He moved into practice in California after law school. Over the years he has handled a range of matters at the state level. His work has been informed by an early grounding in political science and by sustained involvement in local and professional groups.

Carlson’s professional associations underline where his interests lie. He joined the International Executive Council in 2023 and remains a member. He became involved with the Orange County United Way Men of the Breakfast in 2022 and continues to participate. His engagement with the Association of Surfing Lawyers stretches back further; he served as the organization’s president in 2010 and continues his association with the group.

Those affiliations are more than resume items. They reflect ongoing connections to communities along California’s coast and to networks that discuss the intersection of sport, commerce, and law. He has used those ties to stay current on issues that affect local clients and groups, and to contribute to discussions outside the courtroom.

Colleagues describe Carlson as pragmatic in his approach to casework. He favors plain talk in client meetings and clear, orderly briefs in court. That approach is consistent whether he is dealing with local nonprofit leaders, recreational businesses, or individual clients. He has balanced courtroom work with time spent building relationships in the community.

Outside of formal practice, Carlson’s memberships signal the kinds of conversations he follows. They also suggest an interest in how law interacts with social and recreational life along California’s shoreline. He keeps one foot in professional circles and another in civic and community events.

He is licensed to practice in California and has maintained his practice there since completing his J.D. He currently practices law in California, where his work reflects his community and organizational involvement.
