About Deborah L.
Deborah L. Schwartz pursued law after completing a liberal arts education in psychology. She graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2000 with a B.A. in Psychology. Ten years later she earned her J.D. from Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University in 2010.
Her legal career began soon after law school. In 2010 she joined Sonn & Erez as an associate. That role introduced her to day-to-day litigation and client counseling, and it gave her hands-on experience in running casework and preparing matters for court. In 2018 she moved to Klayman/Toskes, again serving as an associate, where she continued to handle client matters and to refine courtroom and negotiation skills.
In 2022 she took a position as an associate lawyer at The Estate Plan. That move brought her into work that often intersects with personal planning and the practical questions people face as they arrange their affairs. Alongside traditional attorney duties, she has taken on work that involves dispute resolution and mediation.
Schwartz is a Florida practitioner. She is also certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Family Law Mediator through the Florida Dispute Resolution Center. That certification allows her to sit for mediated family law matters and to assist parties in reaching agreements outside of formal adjudication. The combination of courtroom experience and mediation training shapes how she evaluates cases and advises clients.
Her background in psychology informs her approach to client interactions. The connection between legal strategy and how people respond under pressure is a recurring theme in her work. Colleagues say she pays attention to the practical concerns of clients and the procedural steps needed to move a case forward.
Over the years her roles at different firms have included case preparation, client counseling, negotiation and representation in contested matters. She has handled matters for clients across a range of personal legal needs, particularly those that touch on estates, family law and planning issues. She maintains an active practice in Florida and continues to work at The Estate Plan, where her current practice focuses on estate planning, family law mediation and related client counseling.
