About Deborah G.

Deborah G. Roher began her legal path at Yale University, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts. She earned her J.D. from Antioch School of Law in 1980 and moved quickly into public service work. Those early years shaped how she approaches client work: practical, persistent and attentive to everyday problems.

Her first recorded position after law school was as a staff attorney at Northeast Kentucky Legal Services in 1981. There she worked on matters that typically face low- and moderate-income clients. By 1987 she was a staff attorney with Southeastern Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corp., returning to New England to continue in nonprofit legal services. Those posts involved direct client advocacy, interviews, briefings and litigation in state forums.

Roher shifted to private practice later on and is listed as a solo practitioner in 2000. Moving from staffed organizations to a solo office changed the day-to-day work. She handled intake, case management and courtroom appearances on her own. The switch also meant running the administrative side of a practice: client intake, billing, and the logistics that frame legal work outside a larger firm.

Professional affiliations offer a window into the issues that have occupied her career. She is a current member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers, and the National Lawyers Guild. Those memberships align with the sorts of matters she handled in legal aid and later in private practice, where consumer law and bankruptcy intersection with housing, credit and public benefits.

Across more than four decades in the law, Roher has combined legal aid experience and solo practice. She has worked in both regional nonprofit programs and an independent office. Today she is licensed in Massachusetts and continues to represent individuals in consumer and bankruptcy-related matters, focusing her current practice on resolving consumer financial issues and bankruptcy cases in state and federal venues.
