Dean Harold McVay is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1990 and holds bar number 149742. His license is currently in active status. Mr. McVay is a partner at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, a national law firm headquartered in Los Angeles, California, with an office in San Bernardino, where he practices civil litigation in the Healthcare Practice Group. He has been practicing law for over 30 years, serving clients throughout Southern California.
Mr. McVay earned his Juris Doctor degree from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1990. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Psychology in 1987. During his time at Vanderbilt, he was involved in various student organizations and activities, contributing to his development as a legal professional.
Mr. McVay concentrates his practice in the areas of health care litigation, insurance coverage and bad faith, real estate, and commercial litigation. He represents physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other healthcare and long-term care professionals and organizations. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including pre-litigation matters, trials, and appeals in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. McVay has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of San Bernardino, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in San Bernardino for several years.
Mr. McVay is an active member of the California State Bar Association and the Western San Bernardino County Bar Association, where he has served as President from 2012 to 2013 and as a Board Member from 2009 to the present. He is also involved in various community organizations, including the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra, where he served as President from 2017 to 2022, and the San Bernardino County Museum Association, where he served as President in 2017-2018 and Immediate Past President in 2018-2019. Additionally, he has been a Board Member of the Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino since 2018 and serves as a Senator for the University of La Verne Faculty Senate since 2020. Mr. McVay is fluent in English and has a working knowledge of Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of Southern California effectively.
