He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Coastal Carolina University in 2009. Four years later he received his Juris Doctor from Charlotte School of Law, finishing law school in 2013. Those years framed his understanding of local courts and state practice, and they set the stage for a quick transition into practice.
Martin began his legal career at McKinney, Tucker & Lemel LLC in 2014. He worked there as a lawyer, taking on tasks typical for a young attorney in a regional firm: research, drafting pleadings, client interviews and court appearances. That period offered hands-on exposure to the routines of civil practice in South Carolina and to the demands of representing clients in local matters.
In 2018 he opened his own firm, David W. Martin Lawyer at Law, LLC, where he serves as managing partner. The move reflected a shift from associate work to running a small practice. Managing a firm meant new responsibilities. He balanced casework with business matters, staff oversight and the logistical side of operating an office. Those duties expanded the scope of his day-to-day practice beyond pure litigation.
Outside the office he has maintained a steady connection to the local bar. He holds membership in the York County Bar Association, a role he has kept since 2014. That affiliation keeps him plugged into local legal networks and community standards for practice in the region.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in the courtroom and straightforward with clients. He tends to emphasize practical solutions rather than high-stakes gambits. His experience includes the typical mix of tasks for lawyers practicing in a state jurisdiction: drafting motions, appearing in court, negotiating resolutions and advising clients on procedural matters.
Today he operates his practice under the firm name he established and continues to accept matters arising in South Carolina courts.
